Alder & Co.

Alder & Co. is a spirit held in a place. It's a brick and mortar shop - and it has always been a space to gather and explore.
What began on the corner of 12th and Alder in Portland, Oregon in 2010 — could years later be found in a storefront on an unusually quiet street in New York City — and has since settled into a townhouse in Hudson, New York. It is run by Carla Helmholz and Rebecca Westby, two shoppers at heart, driven by discovery, travel, and a love of beautiful things.
The shop brings together a refined mix of clothing, jewelry, ceramics, apothecary, and everyday goods from independent designers and traditional makers from around the world. Most pieces are small-batch and handcrafted, and everything is sourced with intention — chosen for its quiet, enduring sense of style and beauty. Carla and Rebecca travel to find pieces and meet the makers behind them, often introducing these designers to the US for the very first time.
With an emphasis on slow production and understated elegance, Alder & Co. highlights brands that value integrity in both process and product. The selection leans toward timeless silhouettes, subtle detail, and a lived-in refinement that resists trend cycles in favor of longevity. There are always flowers strewn around the shop and pop-ups with talented makers. A small team, they do not seek to be everything to everyone — only to do what they love.
More than a retail space, Alder & Co. reflects a considered approach to modern living. The goal has always been to build a wardrobe and a home: a thoughtfully evolving collection of beautiful things that grow more meaningful with every wear, every use and with love.
Thanks for being a part of Alder. We’ll see you in the shop.
