We like to think that Alder & Co. is more a spirit than a place. It’s a vestige of the way shops used to be: an unhurried space to gather, an invitation to explore. We opened our first shop on the corner of 12th and Alder in Portland, Oregon, in 2010; years later, Alder could be found in a storefront on an unusually quiet street in New York City. Today, our shop is in the Hudson Valley, in an 1876 farmhouse in the hamlet of Germantown, New York. Here, you’ll find us pouring wine at the desk—or, if it’s early, then tea. There are wildflowers strewn around the shop in summer and pop-ups with makers we love. Always, there are small-batch ceramics, clothing, jewelry, and housewares to browse, collected in our travels and from friends near and far. Our favorite things elevate the everyday and become more beautiful with age: timeless and made to last.
Thanks for being a part of Alder. We’ll see you in the shop.
